Ease of Doing Business and Corruption

Ease of Doing Business Ranking -Vietnam has an average ease of doing business ranking of 70 (2019). This rank has increased dramatically from 99 in 2013. Vietnam’s increasing ranking is mainly attributed to getting credit and paying taxes. The main issue dragging the rank down is its corruption but as aforementioned, the state is actively working on fixing it. However, as given in the graph below that is proportional to GDP, Vietnam’s ranking is still comparable to its regional peers that have a higher GDP than it.

IPRI Ranking –Vietnam ranked 78 out of the 129 countries that were included in the Intellectual Property Rights Index in 2020.

Perceived Transparency Ranking –
Vietnam has battled the problem of corruption for several years with bribery being the biggest bane. A lack of transparency allowed the richer population to take advantage of Vietnam’s exponentially growing wealth over the years resulting in its higher corruption, as highlighted in its Corruption Perception Index (CPI) rankings which was 104 in 2020. Since 2016, the state has actively made efforts to reduce corruption especially through internal high-profile arrests and has brought its CPI to 104 with a score of 36.
